Tyrann Mathieu was fully healthy

The Chiefs were wondering whether or not Tyrann Mathieu would be able to play at all during the week leading up to the AFC Championship. On Sunday, he didn’t miss a single snap against the Bengals with 69 total reps.

In the days leading up to the big game, Mathieu had remained on the team’s concussion protocol list after suffering a head injury in the previous game against the Buffalo Bills. Mathieu had slowly returned to practice and the team’s head coach Andy Reid was hopeful in his remarks about Mathieu’s potential availability, but nothing was certain until game day.

The good news here is that Mathieu’s head injury wasn’t worse than it was and he now enters the postseason healthy. While the game did not turn out as hoped, we’re just glad to see that Mathieu isn’t carrying some further burden from the hit in the first place.

Now about that contract extension…
