It’s inevitable from year to year that a successful team like the Kansas City Chiefs will lose members of their coaching staff to other teams. The Chiefs have already lost one assistant coach in Matt House from the defensive side, and now NFL reporter Mike Garafolo has word that one from the offensive side might be taking off as well.
Garafolo is reporting that the New York Giants are looking at three finalists to fill the role of offensive coordinator under new head coach Brian Daboll, who was most recently employed as an OC himself with the Buffalo Bills for the last few years aiding the development of Josh Allen.
The three finalists in the queue for New York reportedly include Chiefs quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka along with Chad O’Shea and Pep Hamilton.
The Kansas City Chiefs could lose Mike Kafka to the New York Giants as their new offensive coordinator, per a report.
O’Shea has been working in Cleveland as the Browns passing game coordinator while Hamilton has been coaching with the Houston Texans and L.A. Chargers in recent seasons.
Kafka has been identified as a potential hot coaching hire in recent seasons as part of the Chiefs coaching staff. A former NFL quarterback himself for the Philadelphia Eagles and other teams, he turned the corner into coaching under his old NFL coach Andy Reid back in 2017 when he came on board with the Chiefs.
Kafka has been the quarterbacks coach since Patrick Mahomes’ first season under center for K.C. and was given the mantle of passing game coordinator as well for each of the last two seasons.
The Chiefs already lost Matt House, former linebackers coach, to the college ranks as he departed to be the defensive coordinator under new head coach Brian Kelly at LSU. Interestingly, Eric Bieniemy awaits his chance to become a head coach despite being the team’s own offensive coordinator for each of the last four years.
