Can the Chiefs get out of their own way?

While the Chiefs already lost to the Bengals just a few weeks ago, what was true in that game is the same thing that’s been displayed in other games—the Chiefs are their own worst enemy. While the Bengals are definitely as great young team and should be thrilled with their season so far, the truth is that the Chiefs are the ones most responsible for either losing or winning versus almost any opponent.

Whether looking at early season losses to the Baltimore Ravens or Los Angeles Chargers or even the recent Bengals loss, the Chiefs were the ones responsible for the defeat. They could not get out of their own way. The entire first third of the season was marked by a comedy of errors for the Chiefs, a team mired in a misery of its own making.

Every now and then, the Chiefs will show glimpses of those early season miscues with poor tackling, odd miscommunications, easy giveaways, stupid penalties, and dropped passes. They had double the penalties of the Bengals last time (10 to 5), threw 2 near-interceptions, and made costly mistakes that removed points from the board.

This game will come down to execution on the Chiefs side. If they play a clean game, they win. If they look unfocused, the Bengals have a real chance.
