‘The impact of Chris Jones

The good news is that Chris Jones is, by all accounts, healthy and ready to play. Even in his press conferences, he’s motivated and fired up. Unfortunately what we’re not seeing in much disruption on the field, and certainly not anything close to the level that we’re used to.

The last time Jones had a single quarterback hit was back when the Bengals and Chiefs played in Week 17. Since then, Jones has played starter-level snaps in the heart of the defensive line for the Chiefs and yet he’s not put up a single QB hit, let alone a sack. Not everything is about sacks, but even then, his disruption has been minimal. Instead the Chiefs are gaining more from Melvin Ingram.

Jones is the single biggest game-wrecker of this entire defense. He’s a man among boys in most games, and the Bengals have weaknesses up front that he should be able to exploit. his presence helps free up other players, to be sure, but we’d love to see Jones find his way to a bit more production. (And we certainly hope there’s no unknown issues at work there.)
