Four biggest question marks for the KC Chiefs vs. Cincinnati Bengals
By Matt Conner
The answer for Ja’Marr Chase
The last time these two teams took to the field, Ja’Marr Chase had himself a day to remember. The rookie receiver already had one 200-yard effort on the year in his first tour through the NFL but against the Chiefs in Week 17, he displayed true greatness with a three touchdown effort anchored by a record 266 receiving yards on 11 catches.
That was the single highest total allowed by the Chiefs defense ever in receiving yards. Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin set the previous mark at 250 yards back in 2009.
What drove fans crazy in that first matchup was the obvious ways in which the Bengals and Joe Burrow were force-feeding Chase and yet it remained wildly effective because the Chiefs didn’t provide any real help for any corner tasked with defending him. This time around, Steve Spagnuolo must ring up a different way forward with multiple players bracketing Chase in the hopes that others around him don’t prove nearly as effective when left open.
