Applebee’s song ruins CBS halftime show (and we’re okay with it)

Look, we all know this Applebee’s song is the worst. It’s not only a horrible song overall, but the lyrics should make us all feel bad for the state of humanity. That said, it was fun to see Walker Hayes’ performance at the halftime show of the AFC Championship game ruin the attempt of CBS announcers to put together any sort of watchable halftime show of their own.

In case you missed it (or if you’re at the game), Walker Hayes is a country music singer who apparently has gotten famous enough playing horrible songs about date nights at chain restaurants. From there, he was invited by the National Football League or the Kansas City Chiefs to perform during halftime of the AFC Championship game between K.C. and the visiting Cincinnati Bengals.

Then when CBS decided to try to give their insights into the game, an unnamed producer somewhere apparently figured out far too late and no one checked their ability to produce any sort of workable broadcast when it mattered the most.

The Applebee’s song ruined everything during the CBS halftime show for the AFC Championship game.

The end result was watching various CBS announcers either groove along to the music or try their best to pretend nothing was happening in the background.

What made it so great was the mixed responses on Twitter during the broadcast which had several people confused and/or making great jokes about the hilarity of it all—from the bottom-of-the-barrel song to the attempts to work around it.
