Why KC Chiefs vs. Bengals will be very different this time around
Reason 1: The Arrowhead Advantage
This one is pretty straightforward. The first game between these two teams was in Cincinnati, but this time the Bengals have to travel into hostile territory. The Bengals have been a very good road team this season, but they haven’t had to play in the loudest stadium in the NFL.
The Chiefs are now 9-2 this season at Arrowhead after their two playoff wins. That record is impressive enough on its own, but it becomes even more impressive when you point out that they have won 8 straight at home now after their slow start to the season. The Chiefs are now fully back to their winning ways at home. In fact, the average home game during that 8 game winning streak hasn’t even been close. The Chiefs have outscored their opponents 242-118 in those 8 games. That’s an average score of 30.25-14.75.
So the Chiefs are averaging over 30 points per game during their 8 game home winning streak and holding their opponents to just over 14. That’s dominant. The offense in particular has been on fire at home lately, averaging 42 points per game in their last four home games. I repeat they have averaged 42 POINTS per game in their last four home games. Meanwhile, the Bengals have only averaged 25.4 points per game on the road this season.
To make matters worse for the Bengals, Chiefs fans stumbled upon this quote from Joe Burrow from earlier this season after a win on the road in Baltimore:
While the quote wasn’t a direct shot at Arrowhead, Chiefs fans have taken it upon themselves to see this quote as a personal challenge and it’s safe to say that the crowd noise that Burrow and the Cincinnati offense will face in this game will be unlike anything he’s seen in the NFL so far. Needless to say, it will be a very different atmosphere than it was for them in the first meeting of the season.
Now on to reason number two.
