Over the last few years, Eric BIeniemy has interviewed with a surprising number of franchises in the National Football League only to be told that the team is moving in another direction for their head coaching opening. Now he can reportedly add the Denver Broncos to that list,

Per a report from Pro Football Talk, the Broncos have narrowed down their list of potential head-coaching candidates to three: Dan Quinn, Kevin O’Connell, and Nathaniel Hackett. That leaves Bieniemy, and others, in the lurch, hoping that one of the other seven openings might eventually come his way.

Bieniemy has been through this process before. Despite his success as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator for each of the last four seasons—years in which the Chiefs have hosted the conference championship game—Bieniemy continues to define the “always a bridesmaid, never a bride” analogy for head coaching hopefuls.

The Denver Broncos have reportedly narrowed down their list of head coaching finalists and Eric Bieniemy is not one of them.

Bieniemy had his first interview with the Broncos two weeks ago but he can now cross that off the list. The odds have him favored in Minnesota, however, or at least that was true earlier in January. And several teams are still very much in the search process.

Given the potential hire of Chiefs executive Ryan Poles as a general manager in both Minnesota and Chicago, it’s quite possible that Bieniemy and Poles become a sort of package deal. At this point, there’s just no way of knowing.

What is clear, however, is that Bieniemy has added another franchise to the list of those who passed him over in this three-to-four-year period. It’s astounding that he’s still on the Chiefs’ sidelines, but the results speak for themselves and K.C. is likely glad to have him around—at least for selfish reasons.
