The Chiefs will have a close eye on this one. For the third time this season, the Patriots and Bills will square off. After splitting the regular-season series, both teams set out to prove that they belong. While the teams have very different play styles, they have similarities in the way that their seasons progressed.
While the Bills were considered the “cream of the crop” in the AFC, the Patriots were considered somewhat of a longshot. Both teams had moments of greatness and moments where they were excruciatingly disappointing. The Patriots stumbled down the stretch, going 2-3 in their final five games. The Bills finished 4-1 despite looking shaky at various points in those games.
Who you should cheer for: The Patriots
The Bills are 4 point favorites at home. If you are a betting person, this might be the one to take the underdog. It is hard enough to play Bill Belichick twice a year, let alone three. If there is a coach that can overcome the odds and defeat a team on the third try, it’s Belichick. In addition to the greatness of the Patriots head coach, Josh Allen has been worse in cold-weather games. In games that were 32 degrees or cooler since 2018, Allen has an average of just 166.6 passing yards per game with a touchdown to interception ratio of six to seven according to NBC Sports Boston.
This game means everything to the Chiefs. If the Bills win, they will have the Bills in the divisional round. If the Patriots pull off the upset, the Chiefs will play the winner of the Las Vegas-Cincinnati game. As Chiefs fans, we should hope for the easiest path back to the Super Bowl. While the Chiefs could take on the Bills in a revenge game and possibly come away with a victory, a win against the Bengals or Raiders is much more certain.
