If you’ve been watching the round of new general manager hires over the last couple of offseasons, then you’ll know the Kansas City Chiefs have a couple of executives and personnel directors who are considered rising stars and likely future GMs. The New York Giants are keen to talk to one of them with news that they are interested in interviewing Ryan Poles.

Poles is currently the Chiefs executive director of player personnel, working alongside Mike Borgonzi (assistant GM) and Brett Veach to make key front-office decisions (alongside the rest of the team). Prior to that, he’s served as the team’s director of college scouting and he’s been considered a bright young exec by those in the know for quite some time.

It was last season around this time that Poles was interviewed by the Carolina Panthers for their general manager role along with current Chiefs vice-president of football operations Brandt Tilis (salary cap expert and more). Ultimately the Panthers decided to go with longtime Seahawks exec Scott Fitterer for the role instead.

The Giants are interested in Ryan Poles among others.

For the Chiefs, it’s been a couple of years since they’ve had significant changes in the front office, and for a team with such sustained success, it only makes sense for other teams to finally come back around poach one or more of those decision-makers for greater roles with their team.  The Chiefs’ ability to remake entire units so quickly—such as the offensive line this past offseason—and the success of recent draft classes have certainly enhanced the stock of those working after John Dorsey’s exit.

The Giants have an opening after Dave Gettleman’s decision to retire was announced on Monday.
