NFL QB Rankings: Where is Patrick Mahomes?
1. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers has been one of the best players not just at the quarterback position, but in the NFL. Leading the Packers to what appears to be another NFC North divisional title, he has silenced all the haters after repeating an MVP-caliber season by leading all quarterbacks in passer rating. He also has the least amount of interceptions among starters and he has done everything right this season. Given everything I just stated, that’s what makes him the best quarterback in the league.
2. Tom Brady, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: I know as Kansas City Chiefs fans, we’re tired of hearing Brady’s name top these rankings, but we can’t deny his excellence. What he has been able to accomplish throughout his entire career and in particular this season is remarkable. Even after getting shut out against the New Orleans Saints two weeks ago, he still leads the NFL in touchdown passes. It’s quite inspiring what he’s doing.
3. Justin Herbert, QB, Los Angeles Chargers: As a Kansas City Chiefs fan, this one hurts. Nonetheless, this is made to be unbiased which means that I have to be honest. That means Herbert deserves it. The Chargers QB has done nothing but continually impress in each and every outing—well, minus a couple. He has earned his spot here.
4. Matthew Stafford, QB, Los Angeles Rams: Back-to-back Los Angles quarterbacks? Yes, definitely. They are both deserving but what’s impressive to me is how well Stafford has done with the Rams this season. Now, he had terrible management in Detroit that led to a lot of losing seasons, but he wasn’t the root of the problem. He’s been a top 10 quarterback for years and his transition to LA has only helped solidify himself as one of the most underrated quarterbacks of the decade.
5. Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys: Finding the right order here was difficult to do because there are a lot of players who should be already ranked at this point, but aren’t. After disappointing or injury-plagued seasons, the order seems a little off. Nonetheless, Prescott has definitely shown up this season and found himself being accepted as a top-tier quarterback. After signing a massive contract extension this off-season, he had to show the Cowboys he was worth it and he did. Prescott has led the Cowboys to an 11-4 record this season and won the NFC East easily.
6. Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills: After a terrific MVP-caliber season last year, the Bills along with Josh Allen have taken a slight decline. Allen has played fairly well this season, but with the inability to help his team win as much as they should, it’s hard to think Allen’s slight decline in production should be ranked higher. However, with over 4,000 passing yards, 34 touchdowns, and 12 picks, he has an edge on a majority of quarterbacks this season.
7. Kirk Cousins, QB, Minnesota Vikings: I mentioned surprises earlier in this article, and I think this may be one of the biggest of them all. Kirk Cousins first joined the Vikings a couple of years ago. Since that point, he’s done well, but this is, far and away, the best stretch he’s had with 30 touchdown passes, 3,971 passing yards, and only 7 interceptions. Although the Vikings have struggled this season to win games, Cousins has had a very good year.
8. Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs: This is what you’re more than likely here to read about. I’m also assuming that you’re not happy with where I have Patrick Mahomes at right now. That’s understandable, but I have to keep bias out of here, and when it comes to this season, he’s not performed as well as he has in previous seasons. With 4,310 passing yards, 33 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, he doesn’t have a great ratio. Now, if he can go out there and get the win against the Bengals and keep this streak of great games alive, he will definitely move up.
