Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers are gaining momentum

With three games left Aaron Rodgers is the favorite at +125 to win the NFL MVP. Patrick Mahomes seems a distant fourth at +1200, but with his and the Chiefs’ momentum he has a good chance to close the gap.

Through 15 games Patrick Mahomes, despite having a rough handful of games here or there, is fifth in total passing yards, tied for fifth in passing touchdowns, and sixth in total touchdowns. The Chiefs are currently the top seed in the AFC and are favored in their final three games. Excusing the recent COVID challenges, their odds of finishing as the top seed are fairly good.

Aaron Rodgers is 10th in total passing yards, tied for fifth in passing touchdowns and fifth in total touchdowns. The Packers also hold the top seed in their conference and look poised to lock that down in the following weeks.

It will be tough for Mahomes to overtake Rodgers. Rodgers has had another excellent season, even missing a game due to COVID, and has one-third the interceptions that Mahomes has.

With three games still to play Mahomes already surpassed his career-high in interceptions in a season with 13. Despite the argument as many as nine of those aren’t his fault, it’s hard to imagine they won’t factor into an MVP debate.

That said, the Chiefs are on the longest win streak in the NFL. If both they and Mahomes finish the year strong, based on the aforementioned criteria, don’t be surprised if Mahomes brings home his second MVP in his already decorated career.
