5. Keep Everyone Healthy

If anything is going to derail the Chiefs’ hopes for the top seed in the AFC, it could be losing guys to injury or even the COVID list.

Let’s talk about the COVID angle first. I’m not here to get into a political debate over what your beliefs are on vaccines, masks, quarantines, testing, etc. What I do want to stress is that if the Chiefs’ mindset is that nothing is more important than winning a Super Bowl this season, then they should do whatever they can to make sure guys aren’t ruled out because of COVID. If that means following some annoying guidelines for the rest of the season, so be it. Not having Chris Jones and Willie Gay could have easily cost them the Chargers game. They need to do whatever is possible to not have that happen as the season (and especially the playoffs) go forward.

The injury side of things can be flukey, so on that front, I guess we all just cross our fingers and hope for the best. The Chiefs have a good training staff, so I trust that they’ll do what’s needed to keep guys as healthy as possible. The bottom line is that if K.C. stays healthy I believe they have the roster to win the AFC.

With a healthy Chris Jones, Frank Clark, and Melvin Ingram, the pass rush has been good. With a healthy Willie Gay and Nick Bolton, the linebacker group has looked the best it’s ever looked in recent years. With a healthy L’Jarius Sneed, Charvarius Ward, and Rashad Fenton, the cornerback group has gone from a concern to a reliable unit.

The offense has avoided major injuries for the most part. Right tackle is the only position where there have been issues and it seems to be coming around now. Obviously, they need their big names to stay healthy. The bottom line here is that if they can avoid any major injury issues they will be the most talented team on the field in each of their three remaining games.

So what do you think Chiefs fans? Do you agree with my five keys to winning out and securing the top seed in the AFC? Are there any of these points you think I got wrong or something I left off the list that you think belongs on it? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below.
