It’s that time of year again: when Eric Bieniemy‘s name is floated with pretty much every head coach opening in the National Football League. This year, Las Vegas oddsmakers are already linking the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator with the Jacksonville Jaguars opening recently vacated with the firing of Urban Meyer.

Meyer has been a laughingstock of a hire since he first arrived in Jacksonville, from wanting to hire a racist strength coach to making Tim Tebow a very real thing in training camp.

The Jags were looking to make a big splash the last time around by hiring a big name for the sake of creating headlines and hoping that would lead to wins. Instead, it only created a toxic culture and ruined Trevor Lawrence‘s first season in the NFL—perhaps the most “sure thing” of a quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck first entered the NFL.

The odds for Eric Bieniemy are good to potentially take over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Going forward, Jags owner Shad Khan would do well to allow actual character and substance to dictate his next hire, which would make Bieniemy a shoo-in for the job. At the very least it should make him a finalist for the gig. Bieniemy is praised by his mentor Andy Reid, his colleagues, and his players and he comes with a well-known charisma and confidence that would make him an ideal franchise leader.

Bieniemy also brings with him nearly a decade of experience working with Reid and seeing the Chiefs go from picking first in the draft to a long-term division leader to Super Bowl champion.

Our friends at Betsided have set the odds for Bieniemy at +300 with only Tampa Bay Buccaneers coordinator Byron Leftwich and New England Patriots OC Josh McDaniels as candidates with better odds.
