Somehow the Kansas City Chiefs have been without several of their best overall defensive players in each of their two meetings with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2021. Yet injuries and illnesses are a part of the game this year especially, which means both teams are going to have to overcome those losses if they want to walk away with the keys to the AFC West this late in the year.

Back in Week 3, several players like linebacker Willie Gay, pass rusher Frank Clark, and cornerback Charvarius Ward were all working through injuries during the week and were unable to play. Now in Week 15, defensive tackle Chris Jones, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, Ward, and Gay are all potentially out (Ward is questionable with illness) for the Chiefs after a six-game streak in which the defense has dominated opponents.

For the Chargers, they are looking at the loss of Rashawn Slater at left tackle, which will hurt their efforts to stave off the Chiefs pass rush. Of course that’s easier without Jones, but Trey Pipkins will have his work cut out for him against Clark and Melvin Ingram.

Here are the inactive players for Chiefs vs. Chargers in Week 15.

Speaking of Ingram, it will be interesting to see how well he plays against his former teammates on Thursday. The Chiefs are going to need an exemplary effort from any starter in the mix to make up for the losses of so many impactful players.

Here’s the list of official Chiefs inactives:

  • L’Jarius Sneed, cornerback
  • Kyle Long, offensive line
  • Shane Buechele, quarterback
  • Prince Tega Wanogho, offensive tackle
  • Zayne Anderson, defensive back

Here’s the list of official Chargers inactives:

  • Asante Samuel, cornerback
  • Easton Stick, quarterback
  • Aloha Gilman, safety
  • Larry Rountree, running back
  • Breiden Fehoko, defensive line

The Chiefs and Chargers kick off at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California at 7:20 p.m. C.T.
