This is it. This one’s for all the marbles—at least it looks that way.

The Kansas City Chiefs are visiting the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football in a game that will likely decide the way the division will tip in 2021. While both teams will likely find a way to play this postseason, the easier journey is by grabbing the division title as it means the winning team is still chasing the No. 1 overall seed and will secure a home-field advantage in some way with a win.

The Chiefs are up by one game in the AFC West at this point but they are also 0-1 against Justin Herbert and the Chargers. Can Patrick Mahomes lead them to an even series and a road win? If so, the Chiefs will enter the final three weeks of the season with a two-game lead over everyone else in the division. With a loss on Thursday, the Chiefs will fall into a tie with the Chargers and even the Broncos will feel signs of life—knowing they will play the Chiefs in the final week of the regular season.

Chiefs Injury Report vs Los Angeles Chargers Week 15

The big injury questions for both sides is more about COVID-19 and less about any football-related injuries at this stage. The Chiefs have already ruled out linebacker Willie Gay Jr. and DT Chris Jones looks unlikely to play, too. Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed has also been ruled out although it’s for personal reasons rather than a physical concern. As for the Chargers, they’ve lost left tackle Rashawn Slater for the game due to COVID, too, and they’re just now getting back wideout Keenan Allen after missing him last week for the same reasons.

Austin Ekeler injury update

The Chiefs always seem to have a tough time facing the better pass-catching backs in the league and Austin Ekeler certainly qualifies for that category. He’s averaged 108 yards from scrimmage in his last six games against the Chiefs with a career average of 5.2 yards/carry on the ground. That gives him the ability to move the chains rushing the ball or as a weapon in the passing game, which makes him tough to defend without Willie Gay in the lineup. Ekeler came into the week designated as questionable but reports say he’s likely to play. Watch pre-game warm-ups for a final word.
