The Kansas City Chiefs continue to add to their potential woes on defense with the news that cornerback Charvarius Ward is now questionable due to an illness, per our friend Matt Derrick. The Chiefs are set to play the Chargers on Thursday night to open Week 15 in the NFL.

The Chiefs are already down several defenders heading into the AFC West showdown on the road in Los Angeles with the news that Chris Jones is out due to being in COVID-19 protocols. The same can be said for second-year linebacker Willie Gay, Jr. The Chiefs are also down another cornerback in L’Jarius Sneed who is out for personal reasons this game after also missing Sunday’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Charvarius Ward is questionable vs. Chargers.

Ward missed the last game as well with a quad injury that kept him out for several weeks, so his addition to this game was going to be a big help against the Chargers who can put up a lot of points in the passing game. Nothing is certain yet, but for a player to be added this late means he’s trending downward as the Chiefs get closer to kickoff against the Chargers.

If Ward is unable to go, the Chiefs are going to be paper thin at cornerback. There are still options but Chris Lammons is also out on injured reserve. That leaves Rashad Fenton, Deandre Baker, and Mike Hughes as the trio of starters (again, if Ward cannot go) with likely help coming from the practice squad. Defensive back Zayne Anderson was added to the roster earlier this week.

Ward is in his contract season with the Chiefs and has 41 total tackles with 6 passes deflected and 1 interception in 8 starts for the Chiefs in 2021.
