The Denver Broncos were lucky enough to face a mostly stalled Kansas City Chiefs offense on Sunday night in primetime but it didn’t matter since the defense for Kansas City was so dominant all night long.

In Week 13, the Chiefs seemed intent on ruining drives the old-fashioned way—or at least in a way that mirrored the early part of the 2021 season when sloppy was the name of the game. Multiple drives were stalled based on dropped passes, miscommunication, and silly penalties. After the team opened the game with a perfectly executed opening touchdown drive, capped by a nice touchdown run by Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs were unable to find the end zone again, at least on offense.

Fortunately, the Chiefs were red hot on defense and special teams. This game was a clinic in the ways that those areas can potentially carry a team. The Chiefs even allowed multiple turnovers to literally slip through their fingers and still came away with a thorough drubbing of Teddy Bridgewater and the Broncos’ offense. Dave Toub’s units were excellent as well. It’s clear the Chiefs are pretty close to firing on all cylinders if they can clean up those offensive mistakes.

On this episode of the AA podcast, Sterling Holmes and Matt Conner take a look back at Week 13 to see what went right, what went wrong, and what to think about the AFC West.
