Darrel Williams isn’t going anywhere

When the Chiefs got Clyde Edwards-Helaire back from a sprained MCL injury, it looked as if Darrel Williams might be relegated to backup status like the depth chart says. Given the pass-heavy nature of the Chiefs offense—or at least those expectations—it seemed as if Williams might then become the sort of occasional contributor that Demarcus Robinson has become.

On Sunday night, it was clear that Williams is going to remain a favorite of this coaching staff. He’s going to continue to get plenty of snaps even with Edwards-Helaire available, and his surprising pass catching prowess will catch most teams off guard. On Sunday, Williams had 5 carries for 20 yards and 3 catches for 60 more yards.

Williams is a tough runner with deft hands and that’s a package the Chiefs will want to keep on the field for a decent amount of reps each game going forward.

Melvin Ingram gives Chiefs a fourth disruptor

The Chiefs defense has come alive in the past month or more, especially as the defensive front has gotten healthier and into a flow of working alongside each other with some new faces. Frank Clark is living up to his Shark nickname on the outside. Chris Jones is reminding everyone that he’s the AFC’s best defensive tackle. Jarran Reed, the biggest offseason defensive acquisition, is showing why fans were so excited to see him.

Now there’s a fourth disruptor joining those three along the defensive front as Melvin Ingram continues to look more and more comfortable with what the Chiefs are asking him to do alongside the aforementioned teammates. From the word go, Ingram was a disruptive presence against the Broncos with a half sack (along with Willie Gay) on Teddy Bridgewater early which came on the heels of an important run stop.

For the night, Ingram had 3 tackles, 2 quarterback hits, and that half sack. More importantly he’s looking like he’s going to give the Chiefs yet another frustrating presence against opposing fronts when it matters most. That’s also looking like a solid pickup for the Chiefs at the league’s trade deadline.
