For those who were wondering what to think of Clyde Edwards-Helaire being forced to sit out of practice on Friday, the Kansas City Chiefs are expecting him to play on Sunday night against the Denver Broncos in primetime for their Week 13 contest. NFL reporter Ian Rapoport noted that he was at Saturday’s walk-through.

The Chiefs didn’t have their primary running back during Friday’s practice due to an illness, but head coach Andy Reid even stated at the time that he was expecting Edwards-Helaire to be good to go for Sunday’s game.

Edwards-Helaire has already missed several games this season with an MCL injury and even served a few weeks on injured reserve before returning in Week 11, just before the bye.

The Chiefs will have Clyde Edwards-Helaire against the Broncos.

Without Edwards-Helaire, the Chiefs backfield would be paper thin with only Darrel Williams and Derrick Gore to go to. Williams has played a lead back role in the past when CEH has been injured, but the Chiefs also have Jerick McKinnon on injured reserve at the moment with a hamstring injury, which means he won’t be back until Week 16.

In his return to the field, Edwards-Helaire had a nice day against the Dallas Cowboys with 12 carries for 63 rushing yards and a touchdown. He also had 2 catches for 13 yards.

Overall on the season, Edwards-Helaire has 77 carries for 367 rushing yards and 1 touchdown to go with 10 receptions for 74 receiving yards and 2 more touchdowns through the air. It’s been a disappointing second season with the extended injury, but a healthy Edwards-Helaire down the stretch will make a big difference for the Chiefs backfield.
