Overlooked angles of the KC Chiefs recent roster moves

Kyle Long is still a mystery
The Chiefs had to answer the question of what to do about Long in terms of activation but that doesn’t mean that we now have clarity on what to expect. In fact, Long’s availability is still in question going forward until we either see the Chiefs make use of him or at least give a clear update on what they expect from him and when.
If the Chiefs had not activated Long, they would have lost him for the year back to injured reserve. This means that the team is holding out at least some level of hope that Long can be a positive contributor between now and the postseason–whatever that means.
This, however, is no guarantee and it’s possible that the entire season comes and goes without Long taking a single snap with this offense. It’s also within the realm of possibility that Long is healthy and that he soon claims the starting right tackle spot and stays there for the rest of the campaign.
If that all sounds nebulous, it is. ‘Tis the nature of Long’s lengthy stint on IR, the cloud at the right tackle position, and the lack of communication on the part of the team to this point. We will find out more soon, but for now, Long is still a mystery.
