The Kansas City Chiefs are facing some serious injury concerns in their secondary with the word that star safety Tyrann Mathieu might not be able to play. He’s been made a last-minute addition to the team’s injury report against the Dallas Cowboys for Week 11 with a knee injury.

The cause of the injury is not known as Mathieu was able to practice all this week with the Chiefs in preparation for Sunday’s game. It feels safe to assume something just happened to Mathieu over the course of the weekend.

The Chiefs are already looking potentially thin in the secondary given that cornerback L’Jarius Sneed is also listed as questionable coming into the game with a knee injury that limited him in practice from Wednesday to Friday. The Chiefs are also uncertain if safety Armani Watts is going to be able to play as well, as he’s questionable due to an illness.

Tyrann Mathieu has a knee injury that could keep him from playing for the Chiefs.

It’s impossible to overstate Mathieu’s importance to the defense knowing how versatile he is, an ideal chess piece for Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to use as he wishes to help disguise schemes. The Honey Badger has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons for the Chiefs and he seems to be a solid bet for another appearance in 2021.

As for other injuries, the Chiefs activated running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire this weekend which means he could return to action for the first time since Week 5. However, he is listed as questionable. RIght tackle Lucas Niang is also out this week due to a rib injury suffered a few weeks ago against the New York Giants.
