Three major hurdles for the Chiefs vs. Cowboys
By Matt Conner
Getting off the field
The Chiefs defense has become used to being on the field a lot less in the last few weeks than they did in the first third of the season. As the pass rush has found its rhythm, the secondary has been able to take more chances, and the overall results speak for themselves by allowing only 15.6 points/game in the last five weeks.
This week, the Chiefs will need get a taste of their own medicine against the Dallas offense. Dak Prescott and company are second in the NFL in the number of plays and the number of yards gained on the average drive. The only team ahead of them? You guessed it: the Chiefs. In other words, the Chiefs are so good at forcing an opponent’s defense to suffer through long drives and now the Chiefs should be ready to do the same.
What makes this even tougher is that the Chiefs allow a league-worst 37.5 yards per drive on average—that means the average opponent is able to earn three first downs and then some. That’s a lot of offensive momentum in a game. They’ve been playing better, but given the number of playmakers for the Cowboys, it’s likely going to be hard to get off the field.
