On Thursday, the picture started to become clearer at right tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs heading into Week 11—at least in the short term. While the Chiefs still aren’t clear how things will shake out long-term at tackle, they can be fairly certain at this point that they’ll be forced to go with Andrew Wylie again given the injuries at the position with the knowledge he fared well enough in Week 10 to handle the role.
As the Chiefs practiced on Thursday, rookie right tackle Lucas Niang missed another session after suffering a rib injury in Week 9. It kept him from returning during the team’s win against the Green Bay Packers and kept Niang out entirely last week in the team’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Given that he’s already missed both practices this week, it’s highly unlikely he will return in time to suit up and play on Sunday.
Behind Niang is Mike Remmers, but the CHiefs just shelved him on injured reserve a week ago, which means he still has to sit out two more games at least. That clears a path for someone else to step up behind them, but knowing that Kyle Long has not yet been inserted into the position and that Wylie has been handling things in practice as well as on Sundays, it makes sense to assume Wylie will be back at right tackle again.
The Kansas City Chiefs are likely going to go with Andrew Wylie again at right tackle when the Dallas Cowboys visit on Sunday.
Going forward, the Chiefs are likely to have a different answer outside after the team’s bye in Week 12. Whether Long or Niang are back at that point, it makes sense that a couple more weeks of recovery will work wonders for someone. Remmers should be back shortly thereafter coming off of IR. For now, however, the Chiefs are going to go into Week 11 thin once again with Wylie in the starting and someone like Prince Tega Wanogho behind him.
