Given that he just arrived at Arrowhead Stadium two days ago, pass rusher Melvin Ingram isn’t quite sure when he’s going to make his official debut for the Kansas City Chiefs—whether it’s early enough to play in Week 9 against the visiting Green Bay Packers or whether he’ll wait to face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 10.

Ingram spoke with reporters on Thursday in his first interaction with local media, and Ingram was asked if he knew whether or not he’d play on Sunday. He responded with a succinct statement, “I feel like we’re just going to see how the week goes.”

The Chiefs acquired Ingram shortly before the NFL’s trade deadline on Tuesday afternoon from the Pittsburgh Steelers by sending over a sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Pass rusher Melvin Ingram isn’t certain if he’s going to make his debut on Sunday or not for the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9.

Ingram’s terse statements were par for the course in his introductory press conference. When asked about whether or not he had a late-season date circled for Thursday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers, he simply asked, “For what?” The comment made the room full of reporters laugh in response.

The Chiefs were linked to Ingram for several months this offseason. They had him at Arrowhead for a free agent visit in late March and then, three months later, rumors linked them again in July just before players were due to report for training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri. However, the Pittsburgh Steelers then signed Ingram and the Chiefs re-signed Alex Okafor shortly thereafter.

Ingram did elaborate on what he thought about being with the Chiefs and how he appreciated their “great offense.” “Great offense with a lot of weapons,” said Ingram. “Man, they got so many weapons. It’s dope to be on this side of it now, just to see it and see like everything you was thinking was really true.”

Ingram has 10 tackles and 1 sack so far in six games for the Steelers in 2021.
