While they didn’t break out any blockbuster acquisitions or trade away anyone significant on the field, the Kansas City Chiefs were among the most active NFL teams at the trade deadline. They were able to bring in a veteran pass rusher to bolster the defensive front while, at the same time, creating a bit of cap space by opening up the log jam of interior offensive linemen.
On Tuesday, just hours before the league’s trade deadline, general manager Brett Veach flipped a sixth-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for veteran edge rusher Melvin Ingram. Then a bit later, the Chiefs surprised everyone with the decision to send offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif to the New York Jets for tight end Dan Moore—a move that created $1 million in cap space.
On this episode of the Arrowhead Addict podcast, we’ve got a complete breakdown of the trade deadline. What should we expect from Melvin Ingram in red and gold? How does the addition of Ingram affect others along the line? And what makes this such an important acquisition for the second-half schedule for the Chiefs? We also look at the great storyline of LDT over the years and marvel at what he was able to accomplish while offering up thoughts on that trade and what it means going forward.
