Early in 2021, Chiefs Kingdom lost one of its most beloved members (and sports journalism lost one of its most talented reporters) when Terez A. Paylor tragically passed away unexpectedly at the age of 37.

Several months after his passing in mid-February, the Kansas City Chiefs have honored Paylor’s legacy and memory with a beautiful plaque celebrating his life and work after having also retired his seat earlier this season in the team’s press box at Arrowhead Stadium.

Paylor was a fantastic reporter for the Kansas City Star whose affable personality, insatiable curiosity, and incredible writing talent made him a quick local favorite, and it didn’t take long for him to turn heads on a national level as well. It’s why features like his All-Juice team around the draft were such a big hit, and it’s how he was able to make the leap to Yahoo! Sports later in his career.

The Kansas City Chiefs have honored the legacy and memory of reporter Terez A. Paylor with a plaque in the press box.

On Monday, shortly before kickoff for the Chiefs’ scheduled game against the visiting New York Giants, it’s clear that the Chiefs made the changes to the press box and Paylor’s colleague Herbie Teope tweeted out the results.

In the wake of Paylor’s unfortunate passing, the combined efforts of so many who were affected by him on personal and professional levels came together to create the Terez A Paylor Scholarship at Howard University for sports journalism students. The Chiefs made a $10K donation to the scholarship fund earlier this year. Further instructions on how to give to the Terez A Paylor Scholarship program can be found near the bottom of this page
