Create a Pass Rush by Any Means Necessary

At this point, I think every Chiefs fan knows that KC is paying WAY too much money to their defensive front four players to be getting as little pass rush as they have this season. That simply can’t continue. I’m fine with Steve Spagnuolo giving his guys a chance to prove they can do it themselves early in the game, but if that doesn’t happen he is going to have to be smart and aggressive at times about calling up blitzes to help get the job done.

I believe that they need to use Chris Jones on the interior a lot more on passing downs. He simply isn’t making a big impact on the outside and we know he’s capable of that on the interior. Using him on the inside and Frank Clark and Mike Danna on the outside seems like the best way to get KC’s best pass rushers all on the field at the same time.

Once again this isn’t that hard to figure out. If your defense is getting picked apart with ease you have to do something to force a big play. A pass rush is the easiest way to do that. A sack can ruin an opposing team’s drive. A throw away can lead to a punt. A rushed pass is more likely to be offline and maybe even picked off. Yes, it could also leave an open man in coverage, but the Chiefs have been leaving lots of guys open this season even when they don’t blitz. They might as well stay aggressive and try to force a big play on defense.

If the Chiefs do all five of these things tonight against the Giants on Monday Night Football I have no doubt that they will win this game and get things pointed back in the right direction. Does that mean that all their issues are suddenly solved? No, but it’s a good place to start. This team still has too much talent to be where they are right now and following these five keys will help to remedy that.

So what do you think Chiefs fans? Do you agree with these five keys to getting K.C. back on track? Do you think any of them aren’t needed? Is there anything that I left off that you would have added to the list? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments below.
