Every team is dealing with injuries, but the New York Giants are suffering one loss after another on the same side of the ball—on offense. Taken together, it’s a frustrating scenario for Daniel Jones, who has lost most of his playmakers in his second season, thereby stunting his growth (or at least failing to showcase his ceiling).

As the Giants come to Arrowhead to visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football, we thought we’d look at the official injury report to see how the Giants are looking and how the various injuries could affect the game’s outcome.

Kadarius Toney

For the first three weeks of the regular season, the Giants pretended like they weren’t quite sure how to use their first-round pick, Kadarius Toney. He rarely was featured in the team’s first-round pick from the 2021 NFL Draft. The Florida product entered the NFL as an ideal sort of slot receiver and returner. Given that he entered the NFL with a slight injury history, it speaks volumes that he was taken as high as he was since that position isn’t exactly coveted on day one.

In Week 4, it started to come together for the Giants offense, at least when it comes to Toney, and everyone understood why the Giants wanted to add this wrinkle into their offense. Toney’s quickness and route-running allow him to create separation and move the chains, and he’s also very dangerous when catching the ball in stride. That week, in his first NFL start, he had 6 catches for 78 yards after manufacturing only 14 total yards in the first three weeks of the season.

In Week 5, he broke out with 10 catches and 189 yards in a losing effort to the Dallas Cowboys. That sort of high-volume production turned heads, even in a losing effort. He looks promising to play against the Chiefs after missing last week with an injury and it could be a big boost for a team missing some other playmakers (more on those in a minute).
