The New York Giants knew they would not be able to count on defensive back Jabrill Peppers for their upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs. After watching him go down last week in the team’s win over the Carolina Panthers, it was clear the injury was too serious for that sort of quick return to action. Now they have confirmation of this fear as the Giants will face the rest of the season without their safety.

Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News is reporting that Peppers has officially been placed on injured reserve by the Giants after learning he has a torn ACL.

Peppers was lost from the game after injuring his knee on a punt return in Week 7 that was originally ruled an ankle sprain. From there, however, the news got worse with word that Peppers will now face significant rehabilitation before hitting free agency next spring as a veteran safety.

The Giants will be without Jabrill Peppers as they face the Chiefs in Week 8.

The Giants first acquired Peppers as part of the Odell Beckham Jr. trade with the Cleveland Browns, and he’s started 30 of 32 games for the Giants since that time. That said, he did recently lose a starting spot at strong safety after the Giants made some recent changes in the lineup. That’s not to say that Peppers wasn’t receiving solid playing time, however, as he still played nearly 50 percent of snaps on Sunday and that’s with the injury.

Now the Giants’ secondary will find itself tested even more against a dangerous passing attack of the Chiefs in a week in which they’re ready to roar back from being embarrassed by the Tennessee Titans in Week 7.

Peppers ends the year with a stat line of 30 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 pass deflected in six games.
