Wow, Chiefs Kingdom. I don’t know where to start. Have I recovered from Sunday’s beatdown of my beloved Chiefs? No. Will I? Probably not. Am I worried? Yup.

This is uncharted territory in the Mahomes era, but not uncharted for Chiefs fans in general. Let’s not forget, for those of us who have been around long enough, this doesn’t even come close to the worst season in recent history. What we are collectively experiencing is watching an uber-talented team underperform where they should be. But, before I dive into that, let’s look at the rest of the AFC West and see how they came out of Week 7.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are sitting pretty coming out of Week 7 having just experienced their bye week. Things went pretty well for the Chargers as they sit in second place in the AFC West. Having to dwell on an absolute stomping by the Ravens during their bye, I’m sure it pleased them to watch the Bengals do the same to the Ravens.

I think the one thing this week showed us is that the AFC is wide open. Every single team has at least two losses so the fight to get the top seed is going to come down to the wire. For the Chargers, that meant they needed to take a hard look at themselves and regroup following their embarrassing performance against the Ravens.

Other than to nurse the wounds inflicted by Baltimore, the Chargers were fairly quiet over Week 7. The most important news that probably was announced this week was for their special teams.

We all know the struggles the Chargers have with kicking, so this move was probably warranted as they head into the latter part of the season. They will certainly want to make sure they are firing on all cylinders as they head for a clash with the New England Patriots on Sunday.

The Patriots are certainly not what they once were, but they are feisty. They gave a very good Cowboys team fits and took them into overtime. Bill Belichick is one of the greatest coaches of all time and he can often wreak havoc on young quarterbacks. Herbert will need to have his A-game on hand if he hopes to walk out with a decisive win. Otherwise, we could be looking at a game that comes down to the wire and potentially ends in a loss for the Chargers.
