Is Brett Veach the right man to fix things?

This is a divisive question in the Chiefs Kingdom. Some will argue that it’s crazy to question whether or not Brett Veach should be the man calling the shots with the roster after winning a Super Bowl and getting to another the past two seasons. Others will argue that if this roster is clearly a mess right now and he put it together, then he deserves to be the first person to receive some blame.

I believe that the Super Bowl win and a great relationship with Andy Reid will keep Brett Veach safe. Some may argue with me, but that’s what I believe. That having been said, I am all for questioning what he has done with this roster. Yes, the trio of Mahomes, Kelce, and Hill is great, but the rest of the roster is messy. He has invested a ton of money on a defense that is just flat-out bad. He’s given Frank Clark and Chris Jones massive contracts and yet the Chiefs defensive front four has been absolutely ineffective (more on the future of KC’s biggest defensive names in a minute). He used a first-round pick on a running back that isn’t special. He also traded away a first-round pick for Orlando Brown Jr. and he’s playing poorly and going to need a huge contract to keep in town.

You can make a strong case that a majority of Veach’s biggest investments when it comes to contracts and draft picks have been flops. Does he have some hits? Yes, but right now this season the mistakes are hurting the team more than the hits are helping it. Again, I don’t think the Chiefs will make a change here, but the question has to at least be asked and I didn’t think it was right to gloss over it just because I don’t expect the organization to make a change.

So let’s move on to the coaching staff.
