As if Sunday could get any worse for the Kansas City Chiefs in their losing efforts against the Tennessee Titans, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was just slow to get up off the ground after taking a couple of big hits on a fourth down passing attempt and was helped off of the field.

UPDATE: Mahomes has cleared concussion protocol for the Chiefs, so there’s some good news there.

There was simply no reason for any of the Chiefs stars to be playing this late in the game as it was, given that Andy Reid and his staff had given up on competing when they settled for field goals (or field goal attempts) in the second half anyway, after being down by 24 points at halftime.

Despite allowing Harrison Butker’s attempts to be the only points on the board for the afternoon, the Chiefs were still going with Mahomes in the fourth quarter trying to make some sort of garbage time scoreboard magic happen when he went down on this play.

The Chiefs can only hope that Mahomes is okay and that there’s nothing wrong, because if he is somehow hurt and is forced to miss any time, then the organization needs to answer even more questions than they already will face after a miserable overall performance like they put on in Week 7. The Chiefs already nothing defensively this season, but if they lose their single best player for the sake of playing him in a blowout loss, that’s just a horrible call by Andy Reid and his coaching staff.

The good news is that Chad Henne is now in and Mahomes is at least talking on the sideline with his teammates. We’ll get a full report after the game.

Prayers up for Mahomes and here’s hoping we hear positive reports very quickly.
