Running back

We’re throwing running back here in the mix because, while some people in Chiefs Kingdom want to shrug collectively at the idea of a move at running back, the Chiefs have been rumored to be interested in Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack. That makes this a position to watch going forward until the NFL deadline has come and gone.

With Clyde Edwards-Helaire lost with a sprained MCL on injured reserve, the team has turned to Darrel Williams as the lead back and Jerick McKinnon as a secondary option. Williams looked decisive and tough in his first week as the starter and he rewarded the Chiefs with two short rushing touchdowns behind the team’s strong offensive interior. Together, Williams and McKinnon could be enough until CEH is back. Plus Derrick Gore is also around in case of emergency.

But Veach has shown interest in Mack, per rumors, which means the Chiefs might not like going so thin here when they don’t have to. Even if Williams and McKinnon get the job done in Week 7, another running back like Mack is going to be a low-cost addition, and Veach’s preference might be to be safe vs. sorry at a position that he seems to love to invest.
