The Kansas City Chiefs visited the Washington Football Team at FedExField with many questions surrounding their 2-3 start. Even though they walked away with a 31-13 win over the home team, the Chiefs are still likely going to face as many questions as they had before. At least they have evened their record, because in the end, that’s what matters most.

On a day in which everyone was making careless errors once again offensively and the defense had its moments, the Chiefs were finally able to overcome their own miscues and come together with a strong second half effort to put away WFT with a solid showing on offense and defense.

While we’re going to sort out the game properly in the days to come, we had a few quick thoughts to take away from a game that had fans as frustrated as ever early on before giving away to greater hope by the game’s end.

We saw the best and worst from Mahomes

This was an odd game for Mahomes and it shows in his final line of 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Early in the game, Mahomes tossed an interception on a ball that was tipped by Tyreek Hill, a stat that was not even remotely his fault. However, then later in the game, Mahomes served one up on one of the ugliest throws of his entire career. Instead of taking the sack near the red zone, Mahomes tried to make something happen and it went like this.

But here’s the thing. While Mahomes was taking his licks from the media on that sort of throw, he was then also busy reminding of us just how much of a game-changing talent he can be at the position. Mahomes has no equal in the NFL when it comes to his ceiling and it’s why the Chiefs ultimately won by a final score of 31-13. This was one of his two second-half touchdown throws.

For every occasional mistake, there are brilliant moments that come in spades and the Chiefs are happy to take it all together.

Darrel Williams is very effective

In case you wondered whether or not the Chiefs ground game would continue to look good in the wake of Clyde Edwards-Helaire being unable to play for the next few weeks due to a sprained MCL injury suffered last week, Darrel Williams took care of those concerns rather quickly. On Sunday, Williams had 21 carries for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns and looked decisive and tough in his ability to move the chains and make it count in the red zone.

Some people are going to create a bit of a running back controversy here, and that’s fine. Edwards-Helaire will always have his detractors as a former first round pick, but none of that really matters here. Everyone involved is rooting for each other as teammates and the Chiefs are better with both CEH and Darrel the Barrel helping the team in the backfield offensively.
