Mahomes is not playing great.

There are so many things wrong with the Chiefs that it almost feels unfair to pick on Patrick Mahomes. Heading into the week, Mahomes was leading the NFL in touchdown passes. But he has also had his struggles. The former MVP has been turning the ball over this season (yes, I know some of them weren’t his fault) and some of his mistakes have cost his team.

On Sunday against the Bills, Mahomes had perhaps one of his worst games as a Chief. He was 33 of 54 for 272 yards and just 5 yards per completion with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

On the season, Mahomes seems to be pressing. He already has six interceptions, matching his season total from 2020. His accuracy has also been off. Despite completing a high percentage of his passes, Mahomes has been uncharacteristically missing receivers he usually hits. It could be that Mahomes is feeling the pressure a bit more because the defense hasn’t been able to stop anybody. It isn’t crazy to think that Mahomes and the offense feel like they need to score every time they touch the ball, leading to sloppy play.

Whatever the reason, Mahomes has to play up to his standard level of brilliance or the Chiefs aren’t going to stand a chance of making the playoffs.
