Coming into the 2021 season, there were two games that K.C. Chiefs fans would have circled ahead of time as the ones to make us the most nervous: Week 5 against the Buffalo Bills and Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers.

While the Packers look a bit more mortal than anyone expected this season, Buffalo remains an impressive young team who might be ready to make a leap with a statement win at Arrowhead Stadium. Does Buffalo have the talent to make that happen? Yes. Will they be able to pull it off? No one knows at this point.

What we do know about this matchup is that it’s likely going to be very, very important for playoff positioning in the AFC. The Chiefs have a tougher-than-expected road ahead in their own division and they’ve already split the difference with two other contenders with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens. There’s a lot of season left to play but the winner of this match will have a clear advantage.

Let’s take a look at the matchup ahead.

Chiefs Injury Report vs Bills Week 5

The Chiefs are coming into Week 5 likely to have a bit more help than they’ve had in recent weeks, especially on defense. After missing the last two games, Frank Clark should be back with a hamstring injury that’s healed up enough to let him practice. Cornerback Rashad Fenton should also be back from a concussion that’s kept him out.

Whether or not the corners will also see Charvarius Ward return is uncertain as of yet. He practiced all week but was questionable on the final official injury report after being a full participant on Wednesday and Thursday but limited in practice on Friday. Chris Jones didn’t practice all week and is questionable with a wrist injury that can’t seem to heal up. Jones did play the last two weeks.

Matt Milano injury update

The Bills are going to be hurting if they can’t go with Matt Milano in the heart of the defense. He’s a well-rounded playmaker and perhaps the team’s best answers to opposing tight ends as a defender in coverage. Milano missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday but was able to practice on a limited basis on Friday, so he’s trending upward. Still he’s listed as questionable.

Chiefs vs Bills Odds, Spread, Over/Under & Betting Pick Week 5

WynnBET’s Week 5 NFL odds have the Chiefs favored by 3 points at home, which basically means this is a wash on a neutral field, given that home field advantage typically brings a three-point swing.

The over/under on total points is at 56.5, which indicates oddsmakers are expecting a slugfest here. That’s likely to prove very true considering the big-play ability of both quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen to go with the abysmal defense of the Chiefs. It seems a safe bet that both teams will eclipse the 30-point mark, but then again, the Chiefs beat the Bills once last season where no team reached 30 points.
