Frank Clark

Whether or not Frank Clark has earned his big money contract this year or not, it doesn’t mean he’s without value for the Chiefs when healthy. The reality is that Clark is the second best defensive lineman on the Chiefs and it’s not all that close. Mike Danna is making a leap and deserves more reps even when Clark is back, but Clark is a solid veteran who can set the edge, aid in communication, and disrupt the pocket.

For the last few weeks, Clark has missed three of the team’s first four games thanks to two different hamstring injuries (one in each leg) but he looks on track to play this week. He was a full participant in practice and should be ready to come back for an important primetime game like this one.

It will be interesting to see just how motivated Clark looks after taking further criticism from fans after missing more time. Also, how will this affect the reps that Danna was getting? Either way, the Chiefs have been completely ineffective up front this year with a unit that lacks burst. Clark’s instincts and intelligence at the line will help everyone read what’s coming and maybe this is the first week they look the part of a defense ready to make a run.
