Week 3: Taylor Heinicke

After a Week 2 shutout gave this Bills team some life, they moved into Week 3 looking to prove that they could silence the Washington Football Team and their unlikely backup turned starter in Taylor Heinicke.

Coming off of an improbable victory against the New York Giants, Washington was only a 7.5 point underdog coming into the Bills games. There is little doubt the probability of this game being a Bills win was influenced by Heinicke being the starting quarterback instead of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Nevertheless, Heinicke started the game, but the Bills defense finished it. Even though Heinicke threw for more yards against this defense than any other quarterback they had faced that year, it still wasn’t enough as he also threw two interceptions. If you throw in a lost fumble by tight end Logan Thomas, Washington gave the Bills three more chances at the football and they won by 3 scores.

Heinicke is arguably the best QB this Bills defense has seen in 2021, having an 8-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio to go along with a 2-2 record for Washington after many presumed they were dead in the water. Even with that, it would be a long stretch to say the Bills faced an elite quarterback in the form of Taylor Heinicke.
