If former NFL head coach Bill Parcells is right—that is, If you are what your record says you are—then the Kansas City Chiefs are the worst team in the AFC West..

After the first month of the season, the Chiefs sit at 2-2 overall, which might look decent enough to avoid any real panic, but these days, the AFC West is a division on fire, filled with teams hoping to remain in the “contender” category for the duration of the 2021 season. At this point, each of the Chiefs division foes—the L.A. Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Denver Broncos—are all sitting higher in the standings, tied with three wins apiece.

The Chiefs already lost their first (and only) date against a division rival in a Week 3 meeting at home against the Chargers, who also just knocked off the previously unbeaten Raiders on Monday Night Football. That means each divisional contest is going to be that much more important as the Chiefs attempt to rebound from unexpected early season losses to the Bolts and Baltimore Ravens.

Looking at the AFC West standings after Week 4.

Some fans might have expected a cakewalk in the division, especially since the Chiefs have won the last five seasons worth of AFC West titles, but no one is going quietly this season—at least through one month.
