The New York Giants have added a couple new players to their practice squad this week, and one of them is a familiar face for Chiefs Kingdom. Linebacker Omari Cobb has found a new home after being released by the K.C. Chiefs earlier this year, which is good news for the former Marshall product.

Cobb was recently released by the Chiefs earlier in September, and Kansas City has been his only home in the National Football League for two seasons up until recently.

The Chiefs first signed Cobb as an undrafted free agent out of Marshall shortly after the 2020 NFL Draft and while he was unable to make the active roster out of the preseason, he was able to stick around on the practice squad for the majority of the season. To his credit, he even earned a promotion to the active roster by late in the year, in Week 16 specifically against the Atlanta Falcons. He had a single tackle in 10 total snaps for that game.

Cobb continued to develop for the Chiefs and showed some real potential in a couple preseason games earlier this summer, but the Chiefs had made a bit more investments via the draft with Willie Gay Jr. and Nick Bolton in recent years and the team went with Darius Harris over Cobb while Dorian O’Daniel also kept a spot due to his special teams experience.

Cobb, who is 24 years old, entered the NFL with plenty of experience at Marshall over four years, where he racked up 248 total tackles and 12.5 sacks to go with 3 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions. During his final season, he had 17 tackles for loss alone.
