KC Chiefs: Defensive linemen land on injured list for Week 3
By Matt Conner
The first injury report is out for Week 3 for the K.C. Chiefs, and several new injuries have come up after the team’s recent loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2. Fortunately none of them are expected to be major concerns going forward, but we’ll still keep an eye on things along the defensive line especially as Sunday moves closer.
The Chiefs host the L.A. Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon for the first divisional contest of the year, and the loser of the game will find themselves in last place and (likely) two full games behind the frontrunner in the AFC West.
Both Chris Jones and Derrick Nnadi are on the injury report this week with wrist and hip injuries respectively. That said, both players were limited participants which bodes well for their ability to likely be able to suit up on Sunday. The only other player who was limited in practice for the Chiefs was linebacker Anthony Hitchens, who head coach Andy Reid said was hurting a bit after surgery for “fatty tissue.” Yeah, we’re not quite sure what that means, either.
As for the rest of the injury report, four players were also listed with various ailments. Trey Smith was listed on an injury report for the first time in his young career with a wrist issue. In addition, Blake Bell is dealing with a concern with his ankle, while cornerback L’Jarius Sneed has a quad injury and Austin Blythe is still coming back from sports hernia surgery. They were all full participants which should mean they are probable to play on Sunday. Also, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire was not on the injury report, but Andy Reid said he was sick.
As for the Chargers side of things, several key players did not practice on Wednesday but that can be common during the season to keep key figures out mid-week for rest and recovery. Safety Derwin James and pass rusher Joey Bosa were two such players along with defensive lineman Justin Jones and corner Chris Harris.
The Chiefs host the Chargers at 12:00 p.m. C.T.
