KC Chiefs Madden simulation vs Ravens will make fans happy
By Grant Tuttle
Madden simulations mean virtually nothing, but they are certainly entertaining to keep an eye on. The EA Sports dynasty has been known to have its ups and downs. Recently Madden developers have pledged to create a better product and by almost all accounts, they have delivered.
In this simulation, we tracked the K.C. Chiefs vs. Baltimore Ravens showdown on Sunday Night Football. Madden delivered some surprises and bold predictions for the matchup. We will take you through what the simulation entailed.
1st Quarter
Drive #1: Kansas City won the coin toss and elected to receive, which of course, would be a very big change to the way they typically start a game. Then the Chiefs offense had several big-time passing plays. One to Tyreek Hill and one to Demarcus Robinson, putting them in Baltimore territory immediately. Patrick Mahomes narrowly avoided a sack and hit Kelce between the numbers to put them inside the five-yard line. On the very next play, Mahomes quickly found Kelce on an out route for the first score of the game.
Chiefs: 7 Ravens: 0
2nd Quarter
Drive #2: On the Ravens’ first drive, they appear to move the ball with ease. Latavius Murray and Lamar Jackson have a couple of big runs and Mark Andrews catches a first down in Kansas City territory. Nick Bolton chased down Lamar Jackson to stop him in the open field and hold the Ravens on third down, forcing the field goal unit to take the field goal. Justin Tucker, just as in real life, nails the field goal.
Chiefs: 7 Ravens: 3
Drive #3: The Chiefs are held to a three and out after Mahomes missed Blake Bell in the flats and Clyde Edwards-Helaire was held to short gains on the ground.
Drive #4 The Ravens began marching down the field after Jackson finds Sammy Watkins for a solid gain of 12. Then Murray and Jackson combine for another 20 on the ground. Deep in Chiefs territory, Jackson got Baltimore in the red zone on a 12-yard scramble. On the very next play, he found Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on a slant in the end zone.
Chiefs: 7 Ravens: 10
Drive #5 After a touchback on the kickoff, Mahomes delivers a circus throw to Tyreek Hill as he rolls to the left and throws back across his body. The passing game continued to go off without a hitch as Mahomes had seemingly all day to throw the ball. Demarcus Robinson makes two grabs over the middle on consecutive plays as the Chiefs are finally able to score on a 5-yard pass to Mecole Hardman after he found a hole in the zone defense presented by Baltimore.
Chiefs: 14 Ravens: 10
Drive #6 The Ravens got the ball back with under a minute to try to make something happen. After Frank Clark sacked Lamar Jackson quickly called a timeout. After coming up short on a scramble on second down, Jackson threw the ball short of the sticks and the Ravens were forced to punt to the Chiefs with 30 seconds left in the half.
Drive #7 Mahomes and company came up big on a 40-yard pass to Tyreek Hill, but it was negated by Mahomes crossing the line of scrimmage before he threw the ball. Andy Reid then decided to run the clock out on a dive to Edwards-Helaire and head into the break with a lead.
3rd Quarter
Drive #8 To start the second half, the Ravens drive stalled out after one first down that was gained on a scramble from Lamar Jackson. They were forced to give it back to Kansas City via punting.
Drive #9 Mahomes and the passing game came out of the gates swinging as Mahomes completed three straight passes to gain two first downs. At midfield, the Chiefs continued to throw at the Ravens’ secondary. Tyreek Hill came up big on a 32-yard touchdown from Mahomes to create more cushion for their lead.
Chiefs: 21 Ravens: 10
Drive #10 Lamar Jackson opens up this drive missing a wide-open receiver in the flats as he continued to struggle to pass the ball. After he was stuffed by Nick Bolton on read-option, he missed another target 25 yards downfield. Baltimore was forced to punt yet again.
4th Quarter
Drive #11 Mahomes delivered a strike to Mecole Hardman for an 18-yard gain on a slant. Mahomes stayed hot and then hit Hill on a crossing route and the Demarcus Robinson in a similar manner on the next play. Mecole Hardman caught a first down on a lazer from Mahomes to put the Chiefs at the Baltimore 25. After Kelce caught a pass to put them at the one-yard line, Tyreek Hill caught a pass in the back of the end zone and found himself all alone.
Chiefs: 28 Ravens: 10
Drive #12 Lamar Jackson connected with Murray on a short route and then missed him on second down on a screen pass. On third down, the Ravens ran the same screen and converted. Lamar Jackson scrambled for a first down on first down and narrowly avoided losing a fumble after getting buried by Nick Bolten. On a big 3rd down, Tershawn Wharton sacked Jackson for a 7-yard loss. Then, on 4th and 17, Jackson found Mark Andrews 28 yards after having all day to throw the ball. Fueled by this big play, Jackson found Andrews in the back of the end zone for a touchdown. While Tyrann Mathieu was in good position, Andrews came down with the ball.
Chiefs: 28 Ravens: 17
Drive #13 After an unsuccessful attempt at an onside kick, the Chiefs got the ball back with 55 seconds remaining. Then Kansas City handed the ball to Edwards-Helaire three straight times and converted for a first down. After seeing Baltimore was out of timeouts, Kansas City went into victory formation to secure the (video game) victory.
