Deandre Baker

Every time he’s been on the field, Baker has looked the part as a potential starting outside corner but it’s all come in limited doses.

Baker first arrived in K.C. midway through last season as a free agent signing after the New York Giants decided to turn the page on Baker’s penchant for apparently hanging out with a questionable crowd. While he was cleared of any wrongdoing of armed robbery from the previous offseason, Baker still found himself unemployed even after being the team’s first-round pick. At that point, it looked like the Chiefs grabbed a steal and were going to find themselves with a solid boost in the secondary.

From there, the Chiefs slow-played his arrival on the active roster until the final week of the season when he got any real playing time. It was also then that he fractured his leg, which led to a long rehabilitation and brought him back around to this preseason. This summer he also looked good with the Chiefs, but the depth chart also made it clear he was behind fellow former first-rounder Mike Hughes, Charvarius Ward, and L’Jarius Sneed.

Baker was a healthy scratch in the team’s first game. We’re not sure if this is a trend that will continue, but we think the ceiling here is still high.
