KC Chiefs vs. Browns: Overlooked heroes from the season-opening win
By Matt Conner
Harrison Butker
There are only so many headlines to go around.
Even for a guy who scores as many points as Harrison Butker does, Chiefs Kingdom has a hard time fitting Harrison Butker into the spotlight. Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill. Tyrann Mathieu and Travis Kelce. Chris Jones and Frank Clark. There are $20 million players and household names. There are Pro Bowlers and All Pros. It’s just a lot of attention already going elsewhere.
Still we should note Butker on a regular basis because the Chiefs rely on his leg far more than most of us even consider. On Sunday against the Browns, he was responsible for 9 points in a game that was decided by far less. We complain when Andy Reid settles for field goals, yet we forget that these kick attempts are almost automatic with Butker in the fold.
On Sunday, Butker made all three of his extra point attempts, both of his field goal attempts, and made sure most of his kickoffs weren’t even returnable. It was an effective, efficient day from a player whose accuracy and consistency is taken for granted.
