It’s here. It’s really, actually, finally here. After a long, long offseason filled with the heartache after a Super Bowl loss, the chase of free agency, the thrill of the draft, and the rigors of training camp, the K.C. Chiefs are back and ready to attempt to reach their third Super Bowl in as many seasons.

Like any Andy Reid-coached team, this roster knows that it only happens one step at a time, which means they’re likely focused and ready for the challenge of taking on the Cleveland Browns, the opening week visitors to Arrowhead Stadium.

While the Chiefs are focused on the bigger prize, the Browns are viewing this as a significant prize in itself. A road win at Arrowhead is always a feat, but the Browns are ready to add a respectable win in their cap. The Chiefs knocked them from the postseason just last winter, so being able to sidestep the defending AFC champs would add some serious early season momentum to their cause.

With the game within view, we thought it was the right time to ask our contributors at Arrowhead Addict to make their predictions on what they believe will happen at Arrowhead on Sunday afternoon.

This is the type of game the Chiefs could lose to send Week 1 shockwaves throughout the league, yet everyone would forget when they end the season 14-3. Let’s have a little fun and watch the meltdown. Browns 35, Chiefs 31.

Conflating these teams as equals or even close is just not accurate. The burden rests on Cleveland’s shoulders to show up. Otherwise, there’s zero reason to believe they can keep pace with a team with as much continuity and overall talent as K.C. Chiefs 30, Browns 20.

Bransen Gibson

We’re back baby! The Chiefs face a tough test to start the season but I think they’ll come out firing and remind everyone that they are the best team in the NFL. Kansas City should be favorites heading into every game this season and honestly I can’t see myself tipping against them at any stage. Chiefs 24, Browns 17.

Lyle Graversen

The Browns defense will do everything they can to test K.C.’s new offensive line and put pressure on Patrick Mahomes, but the Chiefs will counter that with a physical rushing attack. At the end of the day, Baker Mayfield just can’t keep pace with Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. Chiefs 34, Browns 27.

Jake Johnson

Chiefs’ fans shouldn’t be surprised nor concerned if the first offensive drive doesn’t produce a whole lot. Mahomes has said himself that after his last game he is as excited as can be which, though expected, could lead to a couple of overthrown balls early. Have no fear though, the team will be as motivated as ever, and we already know Andy Reid has some special, never-before-seen plays drawn up for this game. Chiefs 31, Browns 28.

Scott Loring

The popular storyline on Monday morning will be how Cleveland’s defense “needs time to gel,” but the truth is, Patrick Mahomes is the best football player in the world. Period. End of story. Chiefs 38, Browns 27.

Evan Mead

The Chiefs defense will give up points. Based upon recent matchups and the Chiefs rejuvenated offense with a new offensive line, however, the Chiefs will come up on top. Chiefs 38, Browns 31.

Greg Morse

Patrick Mahomes goes 30/45 for 250 yards and 3 TDs. Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce each get one, and the Chiefs beat the Browns by a touchdown. Chiefs 28, Browns 21.

Ellen Tolsma

It’s September, it’s Mahomes, it’s Andy, it’s Arrowhead.  Not much more to say beyond that. Chiefs 31, Browns 24.

Farzin Vousoughian

Both teams have a lot to prove coming into the 2021, moreso Cleveland because Kansas City was its final stop last season. But the Chiefs offense will be too much for Cleveland to handle. Chiefs 34, Browns 17.
