Greedy Williams
The Browns aren’t nearly as dependent upon Greedy Williams as you might think, if all you know is that Williams was once hailed as a first-round talent. The Browns did take him in the second round to great acclaim, but the truth is that his mercurial play has been frustrating in Cleveland and the Browns invested heavily in cornerbacks this offseason for good reason.
Still that doesn’t mean Williams is without value for the Browns, especially when facing a dangerous pass-first team like the Chiefs. The Browns will deploy Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome outside and Troy Hill in the slot, but there’s room for more corners on more snaps than not in today’s NFL and against the Chiefs, Williams could be a nice defender to help stifle Mahomes’ options.
Unfortunately, Williams has been hurt this offseason with a groin injury and he’s just now returning back to practice. If he’s ready, the Browns will put him in the mix on obvious passing downs. If he can show up strong, the Browns would have a terrific cornerback core (and security for the moment when Ward inevitably is injured himself).
