Safeties

In: Tyrann Mathieu, Dan Sorensen, Juan Thornhill, Armani Watts
Out: Devon Key, Zayne Anderson, Rodney Clemons

The leader of the Chiefs secondary is obvious with Mathieu up top, and he’s gong to be flanked once again by Juan Thornhill and Dan Sorensen. Thornhill in particular is going to be fun to watch this year as he tries to come back healthy and show that he can return to form after a frustrating season in 2020.

There are some depth concerns here that will show through if Sorensen starts to look his age on the field. However, he’s such a tough, smart player that his instincts should carry him even if the athleticism falls off. Then again, it happens to every player at some point.

We have Armani Watts taking the final spot here given his solid preseason. Devon Key looked as if he might be the next undrafted surprise, but he could never turn it on in a game situation, so he’s relegated to the practice squad for now. Anderson’s also interesting as a versatile safety prospect from BYU who likely needs some more time.
