RB Derrick Gore

After a very quiet showing in last week’s game against the 49ers, Derrick Gore was much more active and raised a lot of eyebrows while playing against the Cardinals. Gore ran eight times for 54 yards against the Cardinals. He probably should have scored late in the game, but appeared to have confused the first down marker for the goal line. Gore altogether has run for 60 yards and caught just one pass.

With former Chiefs running backs Damien Williams and Le’Veon Bell moving on, there are a couple of wide open spots at this position for the Chiefs. If Gore has another similar performance against the Vikings, he has a good shot at making the team.

RB Jerick McKinnon

Like Derrick Gore, Jerick McKinnon knows there are some open spots at running back on the team. McKinnon has not shined much in the ground game, rushing for 23 yards in two games. However, he has been very active through the air this preseason.

McKinnon caught two passes for 21 yards against the 49ers while pulling in three catches for 21 yards and a touchdown against the Cardinals. He has also been a good pass-blocker for the Chiefs as well.

After missing all of 2018 and 2019 due to knee injuries, McKinnon appears to be in his element. He’s in a good spot as we have seen many running backs excel and get used a lot in the passing game under Andy Reid. He will have one final chance to make his case when he faces his former team, the Vikings, this Friday.
