This Defense Can Dominate

After an inconsistent performance against San Francisco, the Chiefs’ defense bounced back with a dominant performance in Glendale. Kansas City forced Arizona’s offense into four consecutive three-and-outs, including three with Kyler Murray as the quarterback.

Murray finished the night going one for four and two yards, while being sacked by Anthony Hitchens and Chris Jones. Jones picked up his sack while playing defensive end.

The defensive backs for the Chiefs were also impressive throughout the night. On Arizona’s second drive, Charvarius Ward had a great tackle on running back James Conner in open space to prevent a first down. The following play, Mike Hughes broke up the pass intended for Christian Kirk. Hughes was slightly behind Kirk, but was able to knock the ball down with his right hand.

In the final two minutes of the first half, the Cardinals were progressing down the field, looking like they were going to close the half on a positive note. However, Juan Thornhill shut that down with a diving interception in the end zone. It was good to see Thornhill play well on Friday night.

This defense looks faster and more athletic than last season. The cornerbacks were on the same page last night, and the linebackers are much quicker in coverage.
